Who are Mike Martin Builders (MMB)?
MMB co-founders, Mike Martin and Kirk Skelton, bring more than 75 combined years of building experience. We are a full-service construction firm with many years of experience in residential, light commercial and multifamily. Although we specialize in custom single-family homes, we also love taking on architectural additions, renovations and remodeling projects. Our refined and cohesive team approach enables MMB to handle projects of all sizes.
MMB builds high quality homes and client relationships by leveraging innovative materials and scientific building methods. Our foundation is deep with industry experience and proven “Client-Centric” processes. At the completion of a project it is such a great feeling to be invited in to our client’s new home as a friend.

Client-centric, also known as customer-centric, is an approach to doing business that focuses on creating a positive experience for the customer by maximizing service and/or product offerings and building relationships. Client-centric businesses ensure that the customer is at the center of a business's philosophy, operations, or ideas. MMB, client-centric business, believes that our clients are the primary reason that we exist, and we use every means at our disposal to keep our client satisfied.
Lean Construction Philosophy
Lean Construction is a philosophy and a practice that informs every home building & remodeling project we take on at MMB. It’s a holistic approach to construction that doesn’t follow a traditional top-down workflow. Instead, it’s a bottom-up process that encourages useful contributions from everyone involved with the project. It also means never starting work that we aren’t fully prepared to complete. MMB use Lean Construction techniques to eliminate bottlenecks and allow efficient and timely project execution.
Open Book Approach
MMB seeks to save costs at every step of the process. We refer to this as our “Open Book Approach,” which is completely transparent to our clients. This starts during the pre-construction process when we provide our estimates for clients’ total investment. This is important for our clients because it enables them to see how subsequent changes to the project scope will impact the overall cost of the project. It also allows our clients to verify proper credits are being provided when the project scope is reduced.

Mike Martin
Mike Martin is a building contractor with approximately 40 years of experience, and is a co-founder of Mike Martin Builders, LLC. A consummate professional, he is passionate about fine building and creating wonderful relationships with clients. Mike has led a multi-faceted career within the building industry. From stunning new builds and remodels in residential, commercial, multi-family to land development, design, market, build, & sell, his wealth of design & business experience helps guide clients through the complicated details to see a project from “just an idea” to beautiful completion! Mike is a former President of the Home Builders Association of East Central Illinois, and a board member of First Federal Savings Bank in Champaign, IL, since 1997.
Kirk Skelton
Kirk Skelton, co-founder of Mike Martin Builders LLC, has thirty plus years of experience in the construction industry. Kirk has been part of every task imaginable and has a hands on approach in the building process. He started out as a carpenter in St. Charles, MO, and with dedication, honed his skills in single family and multi-family construction. Commercial Construction experiences consist of mixed use and light commercial projects. In 2005, Kirk moved to Champaign, IL, to work for The Atkins Group, as Project Manager, Residential Department. Kirk is a former President of the Home Builders Association of East Central Illinois and on the Code Review and Appeals Board for the City of Champaign. Kirk enjoys spending time with his wife, Kimberly, and 4 children. Kirk’s passion is spending time outdoors golfing, fishing and hunting.
